Kevin Markwardt is a Staff Engineer for Databases at Flex, where he provides database engineering leadership for over 100 Java engineers across 20+ code repositories. With more than a decade of experience in database engineering, Kevin specializes in MySQL and PostgreSQL performance optimization, cloud-native architectures, and AI-assisted development tooling.
Throughout his career, Kevin has consulted with 50+ organizations on database architecture design and performance tuning. At VMware, he developed Kubernetes MySQL operators using Golang, and at Pythian, he built training programs for database consultants while optimizing production deployments with ProxySQL and MySQL.
Kevin is passionate about developer enablement and currently leads AI integration initiatives at Flex, driving adoption of tools like Claude Code and Gemini to improve engineering productivity. His expertise includes MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS (Aurora, RDS, EKS), Kubernetes, Golang, and query performance engineering in high-scale production environments.
