Scaling Global User Management in MySQL with ProxySQL

MySQL user management is simple and easy to operate, but its core design relies on granting access directly to one or more servers. In large multi-tenant and multi-region deployments, this approach quickly creates a vast web of interconnected state management.
Introducing a ProxySQL layer complicates this necessary conditional state even further. This talk will detail how Digital Ocean integrated user management for both MySQL and ProxySQL into our CI/CD pipelines. We then leveraged this automation to use ProxySQL for real-time, zero-downtime data migrations that required no client-side changes.
