From Our Customers to the Community: How AWS Contributes Upstream

Operating open source databases at massive scale gives AWS a unique vantage point — we see problems early, at high concurrency, across diverse workloads. When we find them, we don’t just fix it in our managed service — we work upstream to solve it for everyone. In this keynote, Jignesh Shah shares AWS’s year-over-year upstream contributions across PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL, and Valkey. He’ll walk through the customer problems that drove these contributions, show how the Valkey community has grown into a multi-company effort with 225+ contributors, and discuss what AWS aims to do — including published release objectives that bring transparency to how quickly we aim to deliver community versions to customers.
