Using PMM to Analyze What's Going On with MySQL: A Walkthrough

In only a few weeks, the Percona Monitoring and Management tool, PMM for short, will celebrate its 10th anniversary (or has already, if we count from the first beta version, released in April of 2016). As the first MySQL-dedicated open source monitoring solution of its kind, it changed the way our community kept tabs on what’s going on with our servers. Over the years, Percona expanded PMM to support MongoDB and PostgreSQL, and, more recently, Valkey - but it all started with MySQL.

In this 30-minute presentation, I’ll walk through a practical workflow for analyzing a MySQL server with PMM. Starting with the high-level MySQL dashboards and drilling down into InnoDB-specific metrics, I’ll show how to correlate database and operating system metrics to identify performance bottlenecks and use Query Analytics (QAN) to pinpoint potential culprits.
